  1. Castles across the UK

    January 29, 2018 by misstimmins

This afternoon we were busy locating castles across the UK.

We matched the castles to their locations and then found them on a map of the UK

    Can you remember…

The four countries and their capital cities?

Where would you find Edinburgh castle?

Can you name any of the other castles we were looking at today?

  2. Warwick Castle

    January 10, 2018 by misstimmins

We had a fantastic time visiting Warwick Castle today.

The children were able to share their prior knowledge of castles and identify the different features as we walked around the grounds.

We started off our morning by visiting the Time Tower. In the Time Tower we found out some really interesting information about the history of the castle.

Before we had our lunch we walked up the mound and were lucky enough to watch the bird of prey show before walking to have our lunch.

After lunch we walked along the ramparts and looked over the battlements and through the arrow slits.

We then walked up a lot of steps to get to the top of the tower. The only way down was walking back down the hundreds of stairs. All the children were extremely brave.

We finished off our day by visiting the castle rooms.

Thank you to all the parent helpers today 🙂

What was your favourite part of the day?

  3. King Robert Returns

    January 8, 2018 by misstimmins

This morning we worked in groups to create a living diagram of a castle.

As we were rehearsing King Robert suddenly returned.

He enjoyed watching us perform our living diagrams and was very impressed when we shared our expert knowledge with him.

What can you tell me about the part of the castle you have been researching?

  4. Welcome Back

    January 4, 2018 by misstimmins

    Happy New Year!

What a busy but fantastic first day back. Today we had a visit from King Robert who asked us to travel back in time with him. He left us a scroll with some instructions on and a bag of resources. He asked us to help him to label the different parts of the castle. First we had to read the labels and research them to find out where they might be found in or on a castle. Our next job was to label these parts on a picture of a castle that King Robert had left for us.

We now know lots of new vocabulary related to castles.

Can you remember the names of any parts of the castle you labelled today?

  6. Tricker’s Boots and Shoes

    November 15, 2017 by misstimmins

Today we had a visit from two of the workers from Tricker’s shoe factory in Northampton.

They came into school this morning to talk to the children about how shoes are made. The children got the chance to look closely at some of the materials they use, hold some hand made shoes and boots, look at some of the tools used in the factory and ask Scott and Adele lots of questions about their job.

Can you remember what materials they use in their factory to make shoes and boots?

  8. Remembrance Day

    November 10, 2017 by misstimmins

    What is Remembrance Day?

Today we talked about Remembrance day and why we wear poppies around this time of the year.

The children enjoyed sharing stories and were intrigued to find out who was King or Queen during the first world war.

After our class discussions all of the children used power paint to make their own poppy.

  9. Playground Astronauts

    November 8, 2017 by misstimmins

    Today we became playground astronauts.

The children worked in pairs to write a set of instructions to take their spaceship from ‘Earth’ to the ‘Moon’.

The children took it in turns to act out the role of the spaceship. Once the children had planned their set of instructions they ‘programmed’ their spaceship to ensure they got to the Moon.

Can you remember your sequence of instructions?

  10. The big first aid

    November 3, 2017 by misstimmins

Today the children took part in The Big First Aid Lesson.

St Johns Ambulance had put together a live stream of firework safety for children.

Reception, Years 1 and 2 all took part in the hall this afternoon.

Have a great bonfire night and stay safe 🙂
