  1. Queen Elizabeth II Returns

    September 29, 2017 by misstimmins

Today we had another visit from Queen Elizabeth II.

The children had lots of questions to ask her.

We then spent the afternoon completing a family tree, finding out where she lives and looking at her crown in preparation to design our own.

Can you tell me a fact about Queen Elizabeth II?

  2. Royal Opening

    September 20, 2017 by misstimmins

The children have had a fantastic day. We started off our morning learning how to bow and curtsy ready for the arrival of Queen Elizabeth II

Throughout the day the children had the opportunity to do a range of royal activities.

Making crowns, designing shields, portraits of the queen, drawings of Buckingham Palace and making jam sandwiches.

In the afternoon the children played some royal sports.

What was your favourite part of the day?

  3. Rhyme Rockets

    September 20, 2017 by misstimmins

The children had a great time this afternoon. They all got involved singing, dancing and creating new rhymes.

We completed some follow up work from the Rhyme Rockets on Tuesday.

The children were asked to generate a list of rhyming words in small groups. We then used their ideas to create our own class rhyme.

Please bring in a photograph of you celebrating a special event. It could be a photograph of you at your birthday, Christmas, a wedding, Diwali or any other special event you celebrate throughout the year. We will be writing about these this week so please ensure that you are prepared to talk about your photograph. We will also be displaying these photographs on our class celebrations board so these will be returned at the end of the academic year.

Please bring in your photographs by Thursday 8th September.

  5. Welcome Back

    September 6, 2016 by misstimmins

    Welcome back!

We have had a fantastic first two days back at school. The children have been very busy exploring their new classroom and getting to know Miss Shaw.

We have had a very exciting day today. This morning we discovered a mystery bag in our classroom. Attached to the bag was a message from Dog Skeleton. He needed our help to name, label and match the pictures to the correct body parts. The children worked with their new talk partners to write their label and then present their work back to the class.

We successfully pieced the body parts back together for Dog Skeleton.

The children then worked in groups to label the different body parts onto their chosen outline. They did a great job!

But how did Dog Skeleton get into our school?

The children have spent their break times looking for clues on the playground. What clues did you find?

  6. Spellings

    March 3, 2016 by misstimmins

This week we have been looking at spellings ending in -er and -est.

The children did a great job at recognising which spelling ending was needed in each word.

Here are some of the spellings we were practising.

    Quickest/ quicker

    hardest/ harder

    Longest/ longer

(see more spellings on the spelling bee document)

Try out the spelling activity on Espresso: KS1 English- spelling- activities- Suffixes: adding –er and –est to adjectives

  7. World book day

    March 3, 2016 by misstimmins

The children in year 1 looked amazing today. Lots of great effort put into their costumes. Well done to mummy’s and daddy’s for your hard work.

What book characters can you spot in the class?

The children kick started world book day with a class fashion show. They had great fun walking down the catwalk, posing for a picture and showing off their costumes.

Today we got to meet the baby chicks for the first time.

    The children were very excited.

  9. Chickens

    February 24, 2016 by misstimmins

This afternoon we had a visit from the farmers from Home Grown and Raised. They brought in some special visitors for us to see.

We met Henry the cockerel and Henrietta the hen. The farmers even brought in some baby chicks for us to stroke and hold. They were very noisy.

We now have six chick eggs sitting in Miss Barrett’s classroom ready to hatch.

Watch out for chick updates on Miss Barrett’s class blog.

  10. Our trip to the fairy woods

    February 24, 2016 by misstimmins

This afternoon we discovered that the fairy had left us another message. We found it tucked away behind the fairy door.

    Please help

A fairy his name begins with P

Has gone to the woods to see what he can see.

He gets a kick from playing tricks.

Can you stop him in his tracks and make sure we get him back.

Look for the fairy glade it’s in the woods hidden in the shade.

We must go and find the mystery fairy!

On Wednesday we went on a trip to the woods to find the fairies. As we were walking we spotted some clues on the way. There was a big white arrow on the tree pointing us in the right direction. As we followed the path round we found the fairy glade. There was lights, bunting, fairy statues, wanted posters and clues for us to read. The children were very excited. The mystery fairy have been causing mischief yet again. However, he was nowhere to be found.

After reading the clues we found out that the mischievous fairy has emerald green eyes, his name begins with Pu and he has lost his keys.
